Data Tracker updated!

TTCO, hmm we havent 5th CP in data tracker. I have wait for DT update because I want to analyze my chicane technic..
.......

Well, that's not going to happen, sorry... When I designed the DT there was an agreement (for techical reasons I won't get into now) between me and Jahombre that the maximum number of checkpoints per track is 4 (3+start). Unfortunately, somehow for this track we both missed the fact that this track had 5 checkpoints.

Also, a few weeks back I said that there is probably an DT update coming in the next few weeks... I didn't forget that, but here is the thing: when I was just starting the DT project, I didn't even imagine that it would grow in size as it did (number of queries, complexity, number of users, data entries, etc.). So, some of the underlying methods and techniques used were more or less experimental, I used them to learn some new technologies... As a result, the DT itself is now far more complex (technically) than it could and should be, and adding a new query requires, well, a lot of tedious and (frankly) unnecessary work... If I had the time I would start working on a completely redesigned DT, from the start, but since I'm working now, time is a very precious resource... Sigh... #nixweiss

@TTCO - 5th CP = LAP TIME - (1+2+3+4 CP)

so no problem here))

Well it's not that simple... First of all, all cp times are written in the database and I use an external library to pull the info. So for that to work I'd first have to adjust the PHP script that pulls the data, check if there is a need to do that (if sum(cp-times)>lap time or num_cp>4), calculate all the additional information, then adjust all the client side javascript methods that should get the 5th cp (for all the queries that would use it), adjust the tables, sorting methods, layouts (which could easily be messed up somewhere because the table would be wider) etc. etc. Shortly, it's a mess #blbl

And secondly, you have to think about scalability. It may be that this never happens, but think of a situation where you would have 6 CP's. Then the whole thing falls appart and you end up with a huge, huge bug #zuzwinker
